What is the Gospel?

A Simple Truth

What you believe about God matters more than anything else.

If you would not consider yourself a Christian, you may be wondering what Christians truly believe. At its heart, the message is both profound and simple.

God is the Creator of all things. He made the world, and He made you. Your life is not accidental or without purpose. You were created by God, and you are known by Him.

More than this, God loves you. Not in a distant or abstract way, but personally and intentionally. He desires that you would know Him, and that your life would be shaped by that relationship.

This is where the Christian faith begins — not with rules or religion, but with God Himself, and His desire to be known.

The Problem: Separation from God

Although we were created to know God, we have all turned away from Him.

The Bible calls this sin — not only the wrong things we do, but the deeper reality that we have chosen to live independently of God. We have not loved Him as we should, nor have we loved others rightly.

Because God is holy and just, sin separates us from Him. Left to ourselves, we cannot restore that relationship or make ourselves right with God.

God’s Response: Love and Redemption

God did not leave us in that condition.

Out of His love, He made a way for us to be brought back to Him.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world. He lived a sinless life and revealed the character of God. He willingly went to the cross, where He bore the consequences of sin on our behalf.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Through His death, the barrier between God and humanity was dealt with. Through His resurrection, new life was made possible.

The Invitation: Faith and Repentance

The gospel is not only something to understand — it is something to respond to.

God invites each person to turn to Him. This involves:

Repentance — turning away from sin and self-directed living
Faith — trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour

This is not about earning God’s acceptance, but receiving what He has already done.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith… it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)

A New Life

When a person comes to Christ in faith, they are not simply given new beliefs, but a new life.

They are:

forgiven
restored to relationship with God
given the presence of the Holy Spirit
called to follow Jesus in a life of faith and obedience

This is the beginning of a lifelong journey of knowing God, growing in faith, and being transformed.

A Personal Response

The message of the gospel is both universal and personal.

It is not only about humanity in general — it is about you.

God knows you. He calls you. He invites you into a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ.

This invitation is open to all, but it must be received personally.

A Simple Prayer

If you desire to respond to God, you may begin with a simple prayer:

“Lord God,
I recognise that I have lived apart from You.
I ask for Your forgiveness.
I believe that Jesus Christ died for me and rose again.
I turn to You now in faith.
Help me to follow You and to live in a way that honours You.
Amen.”

The Beginning of the Journey

Coming to faith is not the end, but the beginning.

The Christian life is a daily walk with God — learning to trust Him, to follow Christ, and to grow in understanding and obedience through His Word.

If you have taken this step, we encourage you to continue:

reading the Bible
praying regularly
connecting with other Christians
growing in your knowledge of God

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.”
— Isaiah 55:6

The gospel is simple, but it is life-changing.

It is the good news that through Jesus Christ, you can know God — not distantly, but personally — and walk with Him in truth and life.
